The Art of Scale

Professional Standards for Homeowners & Stagers

1. The 75% Scale Rule

Visual balance is achieved when your art occupies 60% to 75% of the furniture width below it. This ensures the piece anchors the room rather than floating aimlessly.

Pro Tip: For home staging, aim for the 75% mark. Larger art creates a sense of luxury and makes rooms appear more expansive in photographs.

2. The 57-Inch Rule

Museums and galleries hang art so the center point is exactly 57 inches from the floor. When hanging above furniture, maintain an 8-10 inch gap from the bottom of the frame to the top of the piece.

3. Fireplace Scale

Art should ideally match the width of the firebox opening. Leave 4-6 inches of breathing room between the mantle and the art for a clean, balanced look.
